19 innings, no chances accepted - August 12, 1947
They never liked me
at the Milwaukee
park - that day the left
field stands were filled with
hecklers who pelted
me with catcalls and
empty beer cans; but
they tired in the
extra innings, and
most of them left. I
began to daydream
routine fly balls, line
drive doubles, a game-
losing error. But
I disappointed
the few who stayed to
the finish: their team
somehow managed to
lose it without me.
